Q: How quick does SurfaceGuard90 begin to work?
A: SurfaceGuard90 starts to work as soon as the microorganism comes into contact with the treated surface.
It works continuously to maintain a consistently lower bio-burden (reduces potential to form biofilms) than surfaces without SurfaceGuard90 protection.
Q: How does the chemical work?
A: The active ingredient forms a colorless, odorless, positively charged polymer that chemically bonds to the treated surface. You could think of it as a layer of electrically charged swords. When a microorganism comes in contact with the treated surface, the quaternary amine “sword” punctures the cell membrane and the electrical charge “shocks” the cell. Since nothing is transferred to the now dead cell, the antimicrobial doesn’t lose strength and the “sword” is ready for the next cell to contact it.
Q: Does coating give off gases during or after application?
A: No. it does not volatilize, dissipate, or leach onto other surfaces. Its chemistry polymerizes where it is applied and forms a permanent bond that essentially lasts the life of the treated surface. Normal cleaning will not remove the treatment, although it can be eventually abraded away.
Q: How long will the treatment last?
A: Since the cured antimicrobial is non-volatile, insoluble, and non-leaching, in theory the treatment should last for the life of the treated surface. In practice, the life of a treatment depends on a number of factors, not the least of which is the cleanliness of the surface. Abrasive or caustic cleaners (pH > 11.5) can also shorten effective life.
Q: What can I apply SurfaceGuard90 to?
A: SurfaceGuard90 can be applied to any hard surfaces and porous. It is ideal for high touch or areas that are susceptible to growth of bacteria, mold and fungi. Porous surfaces require more product.
Q: What happens if I treat a toy or desktop with SurfaceGuard90 and a child licks it or puts it in his/her mouth?
A: SurfaceGuard90 creates a non-toxic coating on surfaces that will not harm anyone if licked or chewed on.

Q: Can the product be used on porous and non-porous surfaces?
A: Yes – it can be used on all surfaces, both porous and non-porous. This is a tremendous advantage over disinfectants which by federal law are only approved for hard, non-porous surfaces.
Q: How is the product applied?
A: The water based product can be applied by trigger sprayer, pump up sprayer, back pack sprayer and fogging. The manufacturer product by pad, exhaust or over spray.
Q: What is the difference between this product and other antimicrobials out in the marketplace?
A: Most commercial antimicrobials used are capable of providing a quick inhibition of bacteria and fungi (although some have a limited spectrum of effectiveness). Conventional products penetrate living cells and kill by way of poisoning the organism. They are designed to act quickly and dissipate quickly to avoid adverse effects to humans and animals due to their toxic ingredients. Our coating takes a totally different approach. Like conventional antimicrobials it provides an effective initial microbial kill when it is applied, BUT, unlike the others, it also provides long-term control of growth on treated surfaces by creating a modified surface to make them antimicrobial.
Q: Is there regrowth after treatment?
A: Because of its unique chemistry, it provides long-term protection against regrowth and future contamination on treated surfaces. Porous surfaces, which are contaminated below the surface, will occasionally experience some growth that breaks through a treated surface.
Q: What preparation is necessary prior to applying the treatment?
A: For best results, surfaces should be cleaned or scoured.
Q: After treating a surface with SurfaceGuard90, do I still have to clean the surface regularly?
A: Yes. SurfaceGuard90 creates an antimicrobial coating on surface that continually inhibits the growth of a wide range of microbial contaminants for up to three months. However, you should still clean and disinfect the surface as you normally do to further enhance the effectiveness of SurfaceGuard90 and maintain surface hygiene.
Q: If I can’t afford to treat every inch of my building or house with SurfaceGuard90 is it even worth doing?
A: Absolutely! We recommend SurfaceGuard90 be applied to high-volume touch point, such as desks or door knobs, and areas that are more susceptible to the growth of bacteria, mold and fungi, such as a damp room.
Q: Will bleach or other harsh cleaning chemicals ruin the antimicrobial coating created by SurfaceGuard90?
A: No. While we recommend using a cleaner disinfectant for normal maintenance cleaning, other cleaners or sanitizers will not affect SurfaceGuard90’s Antimicrobial barrier.
Q: You say that SurfaceGuard90 creates an environmentally friendly, non-toxic antimicrobial barrier on surfaces. What does this really mean?
A: The antimicrobial coating created by SurfaceGuard90 is considered the world’s most environmentally friendly because it does need to leach off the surface to destroy the cell wall of microorganisms like bacteria or mold. Other non-toxic antimicrobial products must leach off the surfaces to work in order to poison cells with heavy metals such as silver or copper. Each time leaching antimicrobials poison a cell, a small amount of that metal comes off and remains on the surface and enters the environment. This leaching/non-leaching comparison also explains why SurfaceGuard90 lasts longer and performs better than other long-lasting antimicrobial products.
Q: What preparation is necessary prior to applying the treatment?
A: For best results, surfaces should be cleaned or scoured.
Q: Are there any safety concerns after application is complete?
A: The unique properties permits near permanent bonding to any surface to which it is applied. Furthermore, this product will not give off any gases, leach onto other surfaces, or loose its strength over time. As long as the surface is kept clean with normal cleaning procedures, the surface will continue to fight any microbial growth.
Q: What types of microorganisms does it work against?
A: It is effective against odor causing bacteria, stain causing bacteria, mold and mildew.
Q: Does this mean I don’t have to clean my surfaces as much or as carefully?
A: No. The product provides continuous antimicrobial protection that protects the surfaces. However, normal cleaning practices should be maintained.
Q: Does it begin working immediately?
A: It begins to work as soon as the microorganism comes into contact with the protected surface. Under right conditions, microbes on an untreated surface can double every 20 minutes!
Q: Has anyone ever gotten sick from using the product?
A: Extensive testing and a long use history have shown it to be safe. While it is impossible to say that no one will every experience an allergic reaction to anything, it is highly unlikely a negative experience would be observed.
Q: What about PPE? (Personal Protective Equipment)
A: As with all chemical applications, wearing gloves and protective eyewear are a necessity. Follow all label directions. If fogging you should wear a half face respirator as well as disposible coveralls.
Q: What is the shelf life of the product?
A: Unopened 2 years, once opened 1-year.
